United did not open their account until a minute before half-time, when Alan Smith took on the responsibility for taking the penalties as regular taker, Ian Harte, was on the bench. But they quickly filled the net with five other goals in the second half, as Harry Kewell scored with an audacious lob seven minutes into the second half and eight minutes later Jason Wilcox took advantage of a goalkeeping error to make it three United sent on several substitutes on the hour mark and of them, Robbie Keane grabbed two goals in the sixty-fourth and sixty-ninth minutes, while Alan Smith sandwiched his second a minute before Keane's second.
